I'm in the process of revising the blog. I'm even considering switching hosts. I've decided that maybe I should resume blogging, like regularly, instead of just posting once every three months with a "HAI GAIZ I'M BACK" post. I think maybe it would be a good way to keep track of myself and the ways in which I am mentally evolving. I've read over the previous posts here and realized that, zomg, I am no longer the person that wrote those! I was such a weeaboo. Now, I am a SOPHISTICATED weeaboo. Don't worry friends, I am still a fashion-obsessing art-loving dork. But now, I've got a lil bit more wisdom and P I Z Z A Z. I like the word "pizzaz" by the way. My math teacher assigns us these puzzle worksheets as homework with terrible corny jokes and riddles we have to do math to find the answers to. The company that makes them is called "Algebra with PIZZAZ!".
It's almost summer! And that means I'm going to start blogging again. I'll post my upcoming summer to-do list soon. And maybe it's time to update the banner. But for now! I am going to prattle on about something I'm very, very, excited for.
Ponyo! Ponyo ponyo ponyo ON THE CLIFF BY THE SEAAAAAAAA. EEEEE! If you're not ecstatic for this, there's something wrong with you. It's actually already online, so I've seen it. I still want to see it in theatres, though, when the dubbed version is released. I remember the first time I saw Spirited Away when it came out in theatres. I think I was 6(?) It was the best movie I had ever seen, and it still is. I don't really like using the word "magical" to describe things I find amazing, but that's really the only adjective coming to mind that can even begin to express my love for that movie. Spirited Away got me hooked on Ghibli films. I've seen every feature film ever released by Studio Ghibli, excluding Nausicaa of the valley of the Wind and Lupin III: The Castle of Caliogstro, both of which were released before the actual formation of Studio Ghibli. So go watch the American film release on August 14 when it comes out.
The above is a drawing I did a while ago on the back of a math assignment. I think my best art tends to be done in school because I doodle on just about every paper I get, and sometimes those doodles turn out to be pretty darn'd awesome. For as long as I can remember, whenever I've had a unmarked piece of white paper in front of me (even if there was something printed out on it) I've had a very strong urge to mar it wif my pencil. Or crayon or marker or whatever writing utensil I was holding.
I'm home today though, because I woke up feeling awfully nauseated, and discovered that I have the stomach flu. Luckliy I haven't puked for about four or five hours, so I'm taking that as a sign that I'm getting better. I'm sad though, cuz I really did want to go to school today; I'm missing watching Ghost Busters in Latin class, fooling around with my friends in band, and a lecture on ancient Egypt that I was actually kind of looking forward to. Uwaaah. I looked up "Stomach Flu" on wikipedia, and discovered that in the U.K. people sometimes call it "Tummy Bug". I find this an incredibly adorable phrase, much more appealing than "Gastroenteritis", so that's what I'm now calling it. My mum got me some vitamin water cuz she said I need to rehydrate myself, which is important when one has the tummy bug. However, I feel like Vitamin Water is not a good thing to drink when one is sick. Vitamin Water is meant to be swigged from the bottle on a hot sunny day, feeling the cool subtly sweet liquid running over one's tongue as you happily look up at the blue sky and fluffly clouds and thinks "isn't it just tanfastic to be alive today?" It's not quite the same when you're lying on a couch in a dark and slightly cold room wif a terrible tummy ache and nausea. It's just not the appropriate taste. Like. Melted Jell-O.
Well, on to a cheerier topic. My english teacher knows I have a strong interest in art, and suggested that I apply to be a part of the ongoing art project "Art-O-Mat". It's these cool vintage cigarette machines that, instead of cigarettes, vend tiny pieces of art, no larger than a cigarette box. Painters, printmakers, jewlerymakers, collage-ists, metalworkers, and glass-stuff-makers all participate. I have to come up with a prototype to send in, and if accepted, make a minimum fifty pieces of art, each of which will give me a $2.50 profit per piece. I know, I know, that's not alot. But I'm a highschooler. I'm not made of money. If all fifty sell, that's $125, which to me, is kind of alot. Check out their website, artomat.org. I'm not sure what I'm gonna make yet, but I'll post my prototype photo when I come up with something.
I've had alot of yucky stressful stuff lately, namely things that involve my ever-jam-packed saxophone schedule. Blaaaah. I'm already anticipating summer. I need to make another Summer List, which, if you don't know or remember my last one, is a list of things I plan on doing over the summer, mostly involving art.
So, for the past three days I've been playing Hamsters Life, which is probably the stupidest NDS game ever invented. And yet I'm still playing it. Why? Cuz. I wanna get a hamster. WRAWR. Teehee... I guess a poorly animated video game simulation is the closest I can get to it. The cartoony graphics are cute though, like the host character, Hammy, some sort of irresistably cute hamster-eared humanoid wearing a sunflower seed around her neck. I miss my old hamsters... except they were dwarf hamsters, which are, while ridiculously cute, slightly more short-tempered than the bigger syrian hamsters, which may be why they liked to bite me so much. I'm still debating which kind I want...
Next topic of interest; Christmas. I got some nice makeup from Sephora (yes, the overpriced Sephora) such as a nice Deluxe Eye Palette, and the 24/7 eye pencil set, both by Urban Decay. You can't go wrong with Urban Decay. It's got them kickass neon-brights. The colors in the palette have all these cool names, like "Grafitti" and "Scratch" and "Underground". My favorite eyeshadow combination is using Electric, a bright neon blue as a base, Grafitti, the green color in the inner corners of my lids, and Ransom, a royal indigo on the outer edge. I get alot of compliments when I wear it this way. ^w^ I've been looking at all kinds of makeup tutorials on youtube, heehee. It's my new obsession!
I also got some clothing from my new favorite brand, Cyberdog! I've had my eye on cyberdog for a while, but I was never brave enough to buy anything from them, and I finaasked for some for christmas. I'm already temped to make my own purchase from them now, since they're having a big after-holiday sale. I got a fluorescent yellow t-shirt from them (pictured at the right) a black hoodie with silver "cyberdog" lettering and logo on both the back and front, with little silver paw prints up the sleeves, and a smiley print "Safety Vest". Yes, that's what it's called. I can't really describe this design in words very well. It's white with "martian" smiley faces all over in neon pink, yellow, and orange, each with little antennas, some with extra eyes. It's like a tank top, but the wide 1.5'' straps connect at the back with this super sparkly foam-rubber thing; not like a racerback top though because they still leave bare space beneath the spot where they connect. Ah, you proly don't understand what I'm trying to describe. It's very cute and edgy though.
I'm reading a really good book right now, Memoirs of a Geisha. You've probably heard of it, or at least seen the movie. It's about a peasant girl who is sold to an Okia, a place where Geishas are trained, while her sister is sold to a bordello and her parents die of age and ilness. Depressing as it sounds, I definitley reccomend you read it, it's very interesting and incredibly beliavable. I was actually kind of disappointed when I found out it was fiction. XD Regardless, it's still one of those books you just can't put down, and it's absolutely full of great information about the culture and traditions of Geishas and 1930s Japan
I'm dealing with a tough upcoming week; finals. Eeek. Just thinking about it makes me feel a little sick to my stomach. But on the bright side, a new semester starts afterwards, which should be refreshing. I'm taking a fashion design class. I was kind of... shocked... when I found out that the teacher couldn't actually sew, but it's too late to switch out now, and besides, it should be fun. You can see one of my sketches on the left. It was supposed to have sort of a futuristic-french-aristocrat look, but it didn't have as much direction as I wanted it to. It's still a nice drawing though, haha. XD
Have you ever bought a gift for someone, and then decided to keep it for yourself? That's what I just did. :) It's also the reason that I now have four inches of pink vinyl cuteness sitting atop my adorkable-items desk right now. Yes, that's right. A pink 4-inch DIY mini munny. It was the last one the store had, and it was on display. They sold it for full price which I thought was a bit of a rip-off since it was boxless and didn't include the coloring pens it's supposed to come with, but at least it still has the accessory- the mohawk. ^-^ I didn't love it at first, but it's kind of grown on me... I guess I'll just use a sharpie to do an all-black drawing on it.
Some pics of my favorite parts of the latest issue of ViVi, a japanese fashion magazine. Enjoy! ;)
It was actually on July 2, but I didn't have time to post then. It was a pretty awesome day! My mum made me a yummy cake with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles, most of which was devoured by my brother later. A few of my friends came over and we ate cake and ran around playing with sparklers. Yay sparklers! X3 I got pretty much everything I wanted and more- an iPod (see previous post), wads of cash, and plenty of clothes and jewelry. Below you can see some of the stuff I got, and a pic of a sparkler my friend was holding. :) The cool plastic jewelry is from girlprops.com, and the shirts are from hot topic and forever21. (The power rangers shirt is AWESOME!)
I had to leave for a family reunion the day after my birthday, which I'll post a bit about on sometime later. I updated my profile a little bit so check that out... the doodle I'm using as my profile picture is pretty much awesome, kekeke.
My first sewing lesson is tomorrow! I hope it goes well and I'm not an outcast because of the age difference. I'm supposedly going to be in a class with a bunch of elementary schoolers. Waugh! XD I hope I survive. Wish me luck!
